Started a Flash Fiction group with Lisa Henry and JA Rock just for fun and this was the first prompt:

Here’s The Flash Fic:
The three mannequins stood by the shop window, and frankly they were the three most ridiculous looking mannequins ever designed in the history of the fashion. I don’t know who the shop owners are trying to lure with that kind of advertising.
“What is up with those moustaches,” he says, and I turn to look at him. He’s cute, a little overweight but incredibly attractive. Taller than I am by a good few inches. He’s wearing glasses that make him look nerdy.
“The moustaches don’t even begin to capture the ludicrous essence of this atrocity they’re passing off as a window display.”
“Yeah I suppose the Canary yellow pants take the cake.”
“The hat man,” I say. “It’s all about the crazy hat!”
He laughs. It’s just a stupid laugh, but the way his face lights up from it, I just can’t look away. I think he might have noticed it. “So, I’m on my lunch break,” he says. “If you want to get food or coffee or something. I mean, that is if you’re not too busy looking at ugly mannequins.”
“I suppose I can take a break,” I say. “The ugly mannequins aren’t going anywhere.”
“Not in those outfits,” he says, as we walk towards the coffee shop across the street. “Not unless they want to get gang-raped by a bunch of angry queens led by Tim Gunn.”
I don’t feel like I’ve lived just one life, I always feel like I’ve lived too many. And all these lives, they’re filled with stupid memories of broken promises and even some unbelievably grand gestures that I never thought I deserved. Writing might have been one of those stupidities, and it may have further alienated me from the people with whom I never seemed to fit in, but I never really cared about that. What mattered was the ones who kept coming up to me to tell me how they felt Aaron’s pain, or how they were rooting for him. I couldn’t believe a character that I created in my head, and who spoke to me could actually started talking to so many people out there. It touched me the first time someone said it, and its still the same. The love that I get, every ‘hug’ ‘kiss’ or “Love you!” I feel it and I hope you guys feel it too, and my keeping on writing is a sign of that. I just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone for the good wishes, for buying the books and just plain being there for me. If it wasn’t for you guys I might have never felt this joy of feeling like I belong someplace. So whether you still enjoy Aaron’s story because you’ve been tortured too and this is therapy for you or if you enjoy it simply because you’re hooked to the characters, or some reason that I don’t even know, it doesn’t matter. It’s just great that you still support me. That’s your grand gesture, whether you know it or not.
The next installment in Aaron’s story is going to come out August, 01 2014.

The fourth book in Patrick Darcy’s Gay Rugby Player series is out today. Star Irish rugby player, Conor Murphy, lives and breathes rugby. He spends his weekends playing rugby, drinking beer, and singing songs with his teammates. There is only one thing he loves more than rugby, and that is hot rugby players. But after the final whistle sounds, the real competition begins: the hunt for the hottest men.
In this installment, we see Connor and Oisin seemingly having the time of their life, relationship wise, until Sean steps in. The tour brings Conor and Oisin to London where apart from the complications of the game, the complications with Sean arise. Oisin is just the most adorable power bottom, and watching Conor go all Dom on him was fun. I liked that the author managed to make Conor’s character cocky and funny and charismatic, and listening to the thoughts in his head is always fun.
I like that despite Conor’s penchant for having hookups, when he is in a relationship he doesn’t sleep around. This particular series I feel was very different from the usual crap that’s being sold as MM fiction these days. Conor is unapologetic and that makes him incredibly appealing as a character and even though he keeps saying emotions are for women, it’s pretty obvious he can be just as emotional for the right person. Whether that person is going to be Sean or Oisin, that is the real question.
Here’s an Excerpt:
There is spring in my step, smile on my face and semi between my legs. Was that the best night’s sleep I had in a year?Yeah, I think it was. Fuck me! I feel fucking amazing. That smile does not leave me while I have breakfast with
the other lads, or on the way out to the grounds on the tube.
“Did you get laid last night?”
“Fuck you, Enda, I’m just in great form. You ready to kick ass?” Enda looks at
me like I have something wrong with me.
“Did you take something? You’re acting fucking weird.”
“No! What’s that supposed to mean,‘weird?’ I’m just enjoying the craic.”
“I’m just saying, bai, that ye is a moody bollix before most games.” Enda is right, I normally am.With my game head on, I’m so serious, ready to kill blah, blah, oh so serious, blah. But this morning, I feel ready to rock and just simply happy. Don’t ask me why. I just feel it. It’s a bit like that scene from Predator the first one, when they are all in the chopper heading into the jungle. There is a job to be done. Some of us are serious. Me, I’m the one telling the joke about the woman’s pussy. But trust me, I’m a mean killing machine. Conor Murphy, star loose forward, chopper down of all this that moves. Today is going to be a good day, I can feel it in my semi. Oh yes, my semi. I hope this thing does not get excited at the wrong moment. Mind you, it might scare the shite out of those English pretty boys. Watch out Brits, I’m coming to fuck you.

What if the person whose memory you held on to isn’t the person you thought he was?
Lucas Mayer is a hit-man, running away from his past. And the one person he can think of having a future with is Roman Woodrow, who’s always had trouble keeping relationships. Among the many addictions of Roman Woodrow, is the devious Daniel Jones.
I know it’s not a secret that I find the dark side of human nature incredibly fascinating. Watching people’s deceptive minds at work is a lot like being Sylar and trying to figure out what makes timepieces tick. People’s minds are like works of art, just like their physical bodies. They’re all unique—every person reacts to things in a different way and that’s why character studies are so important. I am actually enjoying working on this one so much, I hit the final word count and still couldn’t get the characters out of my head.
Feel free to add it to your TBR and spread the word.
His hand came from the shadows and found mine. Tender fingers entwined, squeezed gently.
“When the landscape of real life gets ugly, we can pick up a book of fantasy and find a beautiful world, all green and filled with sunshine. When we can’t find an end to something sad, there’s always a novel where everything turns out okay and makes us feel better about things. And even though we know they’re made up, we think that maybe there’s just a possibility, in spite of all the ugliness around us, we really do have a chance to make it all work out. Because we read it. And we wanted it to be real.”
His lids squeezed closed. They were the dams to the silver trails of his soul leaking out.
“The last few days, I’ve lived in that world of ‘what if?’ What if we could go somewhere else? What if we could start over away from all of this? What if…what?” He opened his eyes, looked into mine. “We’re always looking for salvation away from some storm, away from some trouble, away from the turmoil that makes life seem way too impossible. We want to find protection, an armor to keep us from being wounded…a shelter…”
His voice trailed away as he pulled me into his arms.
I haven’t seen anything so damn beautiful in quite a while. To say that Dan’s a fucking genius would just be unfair. When someone uses the word genius it makes it seem like authors just sit there on the proverbial typewriter and start poring their hearts out and words start to just come out of their behinds magically to form complete works.
Writing is HARD WORK.
Every word you put on that piece of paper takes sweat, blood and an enormous amount of torment. You can ‘love writing’ all you want I feel like if you haven’t gone through said torture your book isn’t worth my time or money.
That said I could practically see the tears, blood and sweat that went into the creation of this book. I could feel, smell and taste every thing. It’s sweet and beautiful and my words won’t do it justice. I’m just going to give you another excerpt I loved:
Being able to look back on those days with a forty-odd year hindsight, the memories come back bathed in a golden glow like from a romance film with music by Ennio Morricone. I’ve colored them like that over the years, like a painting in progress.
I seriously can’t over this book. Going to take me a while to get into another one but it was so completely worth it. Going through the whole thing, like a modern version of Separate Peace, the beauty of words strung together and descriptions that paint a picture you won’t ever forget.
(Oh and by the way that image I’ve used is another example of Dan Skinner’s creativity. He photographs pictures that just take your breathe away. By day he’s a self-proclaimed Kubrick-stalker and at night you’ll find him doing runs while he chalks out his next story.)
